Blackletter Typeface

Over a number of years I have been slowly working on a modern blackletter typeface. What started as quite a literal translation of calligraphy, has become much simpler in form.

The typeface is based on a style of blackletter calligraphy that I often write in called Textura Quadrata. The guiding principle behind the design of the typeface is that it should be possible to write each character with a broad-nib pen. I then try to find a balance between keeping the shape simple and retaining some of the personality of a written letter.

Currently there is a full upper and lower case, basic punctuation and most numbers. I've stared work on the spacing, and have far-fetched dreams of condensed and heavier weights.
